Are hiking shoes really needed?
Im going to make some hiking trails when i go to Iceland and i was wondering if I really need to buy hiking shoes? i have my Addidas tennis shoes which im always fine with.
Tennis shoes are useless for hiking in Iceland.
A lot of the trails are very wet and the rock is hard and sharp.
Loads of places you can't avoid long stretches of wet rocky ground with surface water flowing over a lot of it.
That's how Iceland is. It's wet.
You need proper waterproof walking boots for Iceland if you want feet that are worth going home with.

It's still the same today. Icelandic trails get Wet... Wetter... And even Wetter.
And a few dry ones.
Horace did it in leather shoes. He did Morocco too and loads more explorer stuff in the days long before modern kit was around.
He was a toughie, old school amateur explorer. Those shoes were heavy thick soled Brogues....not everyday leather shoes.
I've seen them, part of his memorabilia of doing that first ever trip across Iceland. He lived 5 miles from me when I started out walking and cycling at 14.
